Engine overheating is one major problem that every driver faces. No matter how good of a coolant you add still at times you find your car being overheated. There quite a lot of things that make this happen such as radiator leaks, radiator choking, and so on. However, for an amateur driver it gets hard to recognize whether the car is overheating or not.
Here are some tips that would give you an idea of how to determine whether your car is overheating or not:
Temperature gauge:
The temperature gauge in your car is meant to show you the temperature of the engine. Ofcourse everyone knows that when this scale reaches ‘h’ It means your engine has overheated. The crucial point here is not to check the gauge but to see how fast the gauge is reaching ‘h’. if it is reaching ‘h’ within 15 – 20 minutes after you started your car that means your engine has an overheating issue. Also, if you are not driving fast and still you find your gauge reaching ‘h’ it is another sign of your engine over heating.
Within the intervals of gears:
At times you must have noticed that when you are driving on a particular gear for more than 5 minutes your car’s temperature shoots up. This is one major sign of your car overheating. Try changing your gears sooner than normally you do and see the temperature gauge. If it goes on the lower side that means your car is overheating. Shooting up the temperature while you are one particular gear means there is some sort of a problem in your car’s cooling system.
Overheating in cooler regions:
Overheating of your car’s engine during summer is quite a common issue that occurs due to the lack of coolant in your radiator or due to your car’s age. However, if your car is overheating during winters or whenever the temperature of your region is low that means your car is overheating. In such a situation it is best to get your radiator flushed out for any carbon that might be choking it.
Overheating right after adding coolant:
This is one situation that is faced by people who usually use water as coolant. Specially in summers, when you fill up your radiator with water and start the car and still after ten to fifteen minutes you see the temperature gauge rising to ‘h’, it is a sign of your car overheating. In such a situation it is best to add antifreeze to your radiator tank.
